For Grear Patterson's show Based on a true story in 2018 we made two photo editions. The two photos might not look connected at first glance, but as with a lot of Patterson's work they explore time and memory.
211 Elizabeth is taken in Patterson's first studio. At the time he was an artist assistant in New York and was allowed to use a corner of the studio he worked in as his own space. Patterson constantly photographs his surroundings and collects materials that remind him of periods or events in his life. This photo combines the two.
Naked Beach is in a way the opposite. Patterson inherited a pice of land in Bahamas from his grandfather, that he plans on turning into his last studio. The photo is taken from the beach close to that pice of land.
Both photos are of a studio that doesn't exist, one in the past and one in the future.
